Athlone Triathlon Club 2017-2018

What we are about:

It started out as a group of people meeting every Friday evening at Coosan point to practice open water swimming for TriAthlone, then meeting on Saturday mornings for group cycling soon followed and finally we agreed there was enough people and enough interest to create a triathlon club. The main reasons/advantages of doing  so were :

  • Formalize training sessions
  • Create an identity
  • Training as a group has greater benefits
  • Strong athletes within the group “brought on” weaker athletes and helped them to improve
  • Experienced triathletes could pass on their wisdom to ‘newbies’

We are now established as one of the largest triathlon clubs in the country and this year claimed a top ten place in the Vodafone National Series  Club Championship. Each year we consistently have members in the top 3 of their age group category Vodafone National series.

Between the Regional Sports Centre and Institute of Technology we boast access to some of the best training facilities in the midlands. in addition we also have our dedicated bases located at the Coosan Point.

If you are interested in joining Athlone Triathlon Club come along to any training session and check things out for yourself. We’re here to help and encourage.

When you like what you see at training then feel free to contact any Committee member or any any club member.

It doesn’t matter if you can’t swim.

There are members who only learned to swim a few years ago now competing in Ironman events.

You don’t need an expensive racing bike.

All levels and abilities are catered for on our group cycling sessions

If you can walk… you can run!

The Club has gone from strength to strength over the years, 2018 is looking like its going to be our best year to date

And you are never too old – we don’t accept excuses like that!
